Massage
As a professional massage therapist, physical therapist, or chiropractor you’ll find significant benefits using two BodyRock stone massage tools in combination, instead of only one.
* Your client receives a wonderfully balanced, bilateral treatment that feels more complete.
* You get the advantage of working more soft tissue simultaneously, transmitting heat or cold into the body more quickly and evenly, and employing additional specialized techniques for working muscle tissue and fascia issues.
* When using a pair of BodyRocks, all of this is dramatically more efficient and effective with much less stress on your hands. And of course, having a second stone could also let you use one tool, while heating or chilling the other, allowing for longer, uninterrupted treatments.
When starting a massage, I usually begin with long, slow strokes and soft, broad hands. Since the stone of the BodyRock can be heated (similar to hot stone massage), using two BodyRocks together in this position can bring warming heat into this sequence.
* This aids in softening and relaxing the tissue and feels soothing and grounding to your client.
* These strokes can be done anywhere on the body to warm up tissue and create a connection with your client, including on the neck, shoulders, thighs, calves, or glutes.
* They are also excellent for chair massage or seated massage as well as yoga massage and shiatsu massage, where these modalities are generally performed through clothing. A great thing about a BodyRock is that unlike your hands, it slides well over clothing so you can bring heat and fluid movement into your session.
Another way I take advantage of two stones is using the large outer curves to manipulate the muscle and fascia in a variety of directions. This is very similar to Gua Sha, Graston technique and other ASTM tools. Using a BodyRock tool in each hand:
* Move in opposite directions to stretch the fascia.
* Move together to lift and roll the tissue.
* Move in the same direction in a hand-over-hand technique.
* Or pin down one side, while selectively stretching a targeted area with the other stone.
You can do these techniques using two BodyRocks that are the same style. Or for versatility you might even use one of each style together as a pair.
* For example, you might choose two Beveled Tails if your focus is treating fascia. When you use a BodyRock style that has edges, like a Beveled Tail, it gives you more grip on the tissue and more force to break up adhesions and scar tissue in the fascia.
* If your focus is working on muscle tissue, then using the smooth curves of the Classic style can give you a softer feel and a lighter stretch.
No matter which BodyRock style you choose, you can use the tips of the stones in several ways:
* For cross-fiber friction, by moving the tips in opposite directions across the tissue to break up adhesions.
* To work a precise area of fascia when lifting and stretching.
* For working acupressure points, and along meridians or channels
* Trigger point massage.
* Reflexology points on the hands or feet.
* Or to create a more complete circuit in order to channel energy through the stones, for working deep into the energetic body.
Using two BodyRocks makes sense in a professional practice for both you and your client. You get the advantage of expanded techniques and reduced wear and stress on your hands, while they get a unique treatment that just feels great.
SERPENTINE STONE
Classic Style
This style of BodyRock has rounded edges all over and is versatile and easy to use for all types of muscle massage. My original design, and still the most popular style, this tool is great for beginners and professionals.
I love using hot stones
Thanks.
